Solid
Shutters
Solid shutters are panels without movable louvers. While they do not provide you with the convenience of keeping your windows partly open or closed, they do provide you with extra security. Solid shutters are most commonly made of three kinds of wood- Basswood, Lockwood and Craftwood. All wooden shutters are laminated to give them extra strength and durability and also to increase their water resistant properties. Craftwood is the most water resistant wood and is used mostly to construct interior window shutters for more humid areas such as kitchens or bathrooms. However it is a rather heavy wood and cannot be used for windows that are very wide. Basswood is perfect for wide windows as it is lightweight and does not warp. Lockwood is a medium weight wood and is suitable for almost all rooms. Click the following thumbnails for larger view >>
